Re: calming down a flare up of gerd, fast? hi allit's because it will calm a nervous stomach, but gerd/lpr are not nervous stomachs, they are a product of over production of acid and or a relaxed sphincter muscle (not sure if i spelled it that right)i work for an obgyn and we recommend peppermint and ginger to our patients all of the time. A cid reflux, also known as “gastroesophageal reflux disease” or (gerd), is an inflammation of the esophogus the condition is caused by acid from the stomach, backing up into the esophogus because the esophageal sphincter (the top opening that usually keeps acid contained) relaxes more often than it is supposed to, allowing stomach acid to flow up into the esophagus- hence that burn!.
